Fourth Birthday⚓︎

Dear Jackson,

It doesn't seem possible that you're four years old already. It feels like you've been part of my life forever, but also it seems impossible that it's only been four years. Without question, it's been four of the best years of my life.

You've been through a lot this year - finishing up at daycare and beginning Pre-K, making new friends, learning new things around every turn, on and on. It's been a wonderful (and sometimes difficult) experience to see you growing up and gaining independence. I sometimes find myself wanting to help you with things that you no longer need help with, such as buckling your carseat. When you go to get into it now, you always tell me "daddy, can you not watch me while I do my seatbelt?" Of course, I give you the opportunity to do it yourself (but always make sure to check it out of habit) and you almost always do it right. It's a small anecdote but just shows how much you're growing up.

Life is tough for you right now since Pre-K is a big change and you're often really tired. Your mom and I are doing everything we can to help you with it, but no matter how hard of a day you've had, you're still as sweet as can be at the end of it. Sienna is also trying to do everything she can with you, which more often than not aggrevates you, but my hope is that it won't always be this way. She's still little and you're both still getting used to playing with each other.

Although some days are more difficult than others, I never lose sight in the fact that I'm truly blessed to have you as my son. I wish you the happiest of birthdays, and only the best in this next year.

I love you always.

Always and forever,

Dad
