Ms. Maria Sicuranza, a Social Studies Teacher at POB Middle School and POB JFK High School, posesses all the attributes of the professional teacher.

Since joining the POB Central School District, she has been extremely committed to mastering her craft. From the moment she came to us, she demonstrated her desire to grow and learn. She has done just that, as evidenced by the rigerous, engaging and meaningful learning experiences she methodically and skillfully plans.

Her lessons are always grounded in big ideas and overarching understandings. This is most obvious in the work she has done implementing the New York State Social Studies framework, as well as her work with promoting media literacy. Ms. Sicuranza has made significant contributions in advancing our partnership with Stony Brook University's school of journalism. The resources she selects are rich, engaging and most importantly, promote relevancy. She dedicates enormous time to the planning process to ensure relevance is present.

Ms. Sicuranza has been immersed in planning learning experiences that promote online reasoning, informed citizenship and civic engagement. Her ability to research and locate the most current resources related to contemporary issues is stellar. Her instruction is further enhanced by her effective use of instructional technology. She is extremely skilled at identifying technology that promotes dialogue and student engagement. It is a staple of her instruction and her colleagues look to her for insistence.

She engages in frequent conversations with administrators and teachers and she freely shares her knowledge and listens intently to her colleague suggestions. She is a considerate, supportive and respectful colleageue who has contributed to the growth of the Social Studies department.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Sicuranza serves as the advisor to the Chess club and has attended multiple grade 8 Boston trips.

It is with complete confidence and without reservation that Dr. Bowman and I recommend Ms. Maria Sicuranza for tenure within the Plainview/Old Bethpage Central School District.

Getting tenure has been something that's been in the making for the majority of our relationship. I've watched you put in countless hours of work, time and effort into this and I'm so proud of you for accomplishing it. Enjoy this milestone; you've earned it and then some.
